Sara Szczepanski, MA, LMHCA, PhD
Hello! I specialize in helping folks who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, and the effects of trauma. As someone who has struggled with chronic illness for nearly a decade, I am particularly interested in supporting others who also suffer from chronic illness.
I take a collaborative, culturally-sensitive, and trauma-informed approach to counseling and my healing work is influenced by person-centered therapy, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and feminist theory. I am currently receiving training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. My goal for therapy is to create an open and nonjudgmental environment, where you can feel safe to speak your mind. I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are intricately connected and I may incorporate mind-body healing techniques into our work together. Because a person’s culture greatly influences how they make sense of and respond to life’s challenges, I believe that respecting and acknowledging your own cultural identities and how they may have impacted your life are important aspects of counseling and healing. I hope to emphasize the strengths and resources that you already possess in order to help you thrive.
I received a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from Princeton University in 2010. I received an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University Seattle in 2024 and a certificate in Trauma Counseling as part of my counseling specialization. I may incorporate my knowledge about stress, trauma, and the brain into our work together, depending on your particular needs and challenges.
I am currently counseling individual adult (18+) clients via telehealth (online) only.
If you think my work and skill set could help you, please reach out!
